Jaguar Classic is re-starting production of the iconic Jaguar D-type race car in Coventry, 62 years after the last example was built in 1956. Shortnose and Longnose bodywork derivatives will be created according to client preference. First D-type created by Jaguar Classic will be unveiled at Salon Retromobile on February 7.

History. A Jaguar XJR-5 at Sears Point in 1983. Starting in 1983, the project was started by an American team Group 44 Racing, headed up by owner-driver Bob Tullius, who had the backing of Jaguar to build the Fabcar designed racer known as XJR-5 in their Herndon, Virginia, US, shop and to campaign it in the IMSA Camel GTP championship.

The Jaguar North American Challenge Series, part of the year-long global celebration of the 50th anniversary of the introduction of the E-Type, will be a "race within a race". While all Jaguar race cars will be eligible to compete for wins, only the E-Types will be eligible to accumulate points towards the E-Type championship.
