In "honor" of the Duratec name, all of Ford's European gasoline engines are now under the Duratec name. Even the older "Zetec" engines and really old OHV "Endura" engines have been renamed as Duratec engines. In North America, only the 4-cyl and 6-cyl DOHC engines use the Duratec name. The modern 4-cylinder Duratecs are also good DOHC engines
This particular engine is very powerful for a gas-powered V6, especially when it comes to the turbo models. The 3.5-liter has comparable power to a V8 engine for those particular types, but even the original 3.5 non-turbo is a powerhouse compared to other similar engines. This particular engine was unveiled in 2007.
The 2.3 is loud and thrashy, while the 2.5 is mellower in noise and vibration. Stepping out of a 2.5 after comparing it to a 2.3, the first thoughts that came to mind is that the 2.3 is a POS compared to the 2.5 and why Ford did not start off with the 2.5 rather then give its buyers an underpowered 2.3.

The new 5.0L V8 option was developed with the target to compete with the GM 6.2L V8 engine and the new Chrysler 6.4L Hemi.
